FOOTING

Why Good Footing Is So Important...

Over the years, sand or a sand/wood mixture was the standard in arenas where horses worked. Arena builders wanted better, and searched for new materials which they found in plastic chaff. In Germany in the early 1990's, the first arena footings with geo textile or felt chaffs were created.

Initially critical of this new footing, equestrians soon found that felt and fibers proved to be the most successful solution. Internationally in the last ten years, it has turned out to be an optimal footing for dressage and jumping arenas. In addition to dressage and jumping, these footings are suitable for therapeutic riding, round pens, lunging, Polo, horse race tracks, carriage events and in western pleasure riding and cutting.

Not sure what to do when it rains?

The rainy season can be quite a chanllenge when you have a horse. If you board where your horse is stabled in a stall and it rains for a few days there are a few things to consider. The horse may have pent up energy to release but the ground may not be safe in order for a good turn out and may injure itself.  If you're not sure how to handle this situation consult a knowledgeble person to help you.

Open Arms - Open Mind

Trainers from different disciplines who network and work with each other can learn from one another and possibly view things in a different light.  Cross training the horse in the different disciplines can also be beneficial.   Always keep in mind and carefully observe the strengths and limitations of the horse  as well as what the horse has already been taught to promote a well rounded athlete.

all the horses got turn outs and shots today

Taking care of our own!

The end of show season brings on a well deserved “check up” for our loved horses who work so hard for us all year long. It was a busy day today at the barn. Horses were schooled , bathed and turned out. The equine vet came to administer very important routine vaccinations. Nothing was overlooked as teeth were checked, and any areas of concern were addressed. It truly is a production and worth seeing if you’ve never seen before. Well done to everyone!
